How do you guys get wine running?

Hi LQ,

I've been trying to get Wine or WineX-cvs work reasonable several times now, but I haven't been able to do a lot with wine, except for running notepad.

What steps do I need to do to get wine working better, and being able to launch huge win32 applications (or even battlefield 1942) Only "worms world party" or "gta2" would be great too, because we've played that a lot at a recent lan... (I only play games at lans right now)

* I have an ntfs partition with Windows XP on it, but wine didn't really seam to use it much, it even couldn't find some DLL files that were visible in the windows system folders (with a different case however)
* I've tried to use Windows98 with wine, but I didn't get much working either.

please help

or did you try ditching the idea of using an existing windows partition? you'll have much more success building a fake windows drive in your home folder, and doing it that way as opposed to an actual windows partition...and when you do take a visit to frankscorner, grab the app called winetools, and use it to set up a fake drive, and then go from there...

Thanks everyone. It seams that I'm getting at least somewhere.

I've downloaded the fake windows drive, and frank's ".wine" folder.

But what causes this error message: err:module:BUILTIN_LoadModule loaded .so but dll winearts.drv still not found I think a lot of applications 'hang' because they can't get the sound.
