How do you get Rosegarden to work?
About 6 weeks ago, I bought a book+installation DVD of Mandrake Linux 10.1 PowerPack edition at the Barnes & Noble here in Lexington, KY. Overall, I'm very pleased with it and have no plans at all to go back to Windows, as I think this is probably overall the best distro of Linux I've tried so far.
Yet, I do have one problem that I am stumped on...
My problem is, Rosegarden doesn't work. I click on it, and I get the banner image for it...but nothing else at all happens. If I click on its splash image, the image disappears, but it's still running in memory, as evidenced by the Rosegarden splash image's appearance when I go to shut down my computer.
I also tried running it from the command line and learned that Rosegarden needs JACK in order to function, so I downloaded that and installed it, and Mandrake also alerted me to the dependencies I would need to fulfill, which were taken care of from the installation DVD.
I thought for sure this would get Rosegarden to run, but that hasn't helped, either. I've been browsing through this forum, and I see that some of you have been able to get Rosegarden to run, and I'd sure like to know how, too.
Please bear in mind I'm kinda new to Linux, having had my first taste of it back in January of 2004, and having gone to purely Linux in January of this year (good-bye and good riddance, Micro$oft!) and I don't consider myself all that proficient with the command line by any means just yet (although I would like to, and in fact, I'm planning on taking an upcoming Linux class that's being offered by a local LUG here in Lexington so that I can become a command-line whiz, among other things), so you may have to spell a few things out for me in the command line department.
If anyone knows the trick on how to get Rosegarden to run on Mandrake 10.1, I will be eternally grateful, as I do some musical arranging for my church.
Thanx in advance,
Fred
