Unhappy How do I verifuy that PHP is working?

How does one verify that PHP is actually working? I have made a test.php page with the usual <?php phpinfo() ?> and when I try to access it from the web browser it comes back with url unknown. However, I can click on my ip address (posted on that error page) and it takes me right to the default Apache start up page that says "if you can see this page, Apache is installed correctly and working." I can view php pages but since they are server side that pretty much doesn't matter. Anyone got any ideas on where to start? I have looked at the usual sites, www.php.net and www.apache.org but there seems to be so much data that it would take eons to go through it all. I can post my httpd.conf file but that takes alot of space. Much thanks in advance for any help given!!!

This looks like you put the file to the wrong place.

What is your Apache's DocumentRoot (should be something like /var/www)?

Where is your PHPinfo-File and what's it's name?

It should be somewhere in /var/www (or whatever DocumentRoot is set to).

If DocumentRoot is /var/www and your PHPinfo-file is /var/www/phpinfo.php, the correct URL would be

http://<server-name-or-ip-address>/phpinfo.php

Thanks for the reply. I finally got it going. I am still a noob at much of this and when I did my initial install I didn't realize that php was already installed and I did another install of apache. Bad juju!!! I ended up going back and removing the installs I had done after the fact and used webmin to add the php4 extension to apache and wala, it worked. Now what I'm trying to do is get mysql, snort, acid, apache, & php all working together. This is for an IDS on my email server. Once I get this done and the learning curve is less, I'll do it on my two web servers. Whew, this is alot. Thanks for your help.

Yeah, that's the one I'm using. I've got it down now to where everything is hunky dory until I try to open the acid_main.php page. That's the one (I think) that does the call. I'm having trouble now with access to the database (snort) by user snort. I am trying to go back and check the passwords, etc... Wish me luck!!!! I'll keep plugging away at it.
