How do I use my original Windows XP registry with wine?

I have my actual Windows XP C-drive mounted on /mnt/hd/

Running the winecheck script tells me I should configure wine to be able to read a real registry. There is a setting called "GlobalRegistryDir" under the [registry] section in ~/.wine/config -- I don't know what to set it equal to. It defaults to /etc which is obviously wrong for my set up.

To makes things worse the next line is a comment that reads:
; Global registries (stored in /etc)
this makes my think I might need additional lines (of which examples are not listed in the comments) pointing to specific registry files.

How do I set up my config to read the original registry, also what are the specific locations and filenames of the (I believe 6) registry hives in Windows XP?

Thanks

Try this-

If you still have XP installed, you can export the registry from there, then save it so that you can get on it with linux, and wine must have a registry editor. So then mabye you can import it. Yet this may be a bad thing to do, because what I know about windows if it finds registry keys that don't belong, it's gets all wacked up, and wine is basically a version of windows. So, you should like copy your C:\ drive from win XP onto the part where your wine partion is, then import the registtry, mabye it'll work. So, give it a shot.
