how do I use checkpassword?
 

the checkpassword program... I want to use it to verify user/pass combos... google shows nothing useful, no man page, no info page... anyone have any idea how to use this program?

I tried echo "username password" | checkpassword nothing, I have tried using echo $? to check exit code, I always get 2 or 111, even with known good pairs.

no text output, no --help -h or -?

the only thing google pages revealed were install and usage, usage said error codes and to utilise it download qmail. (I am not doing an e-mail program)

I havent used checkpassword myself, but AFAIK, checkpassword is an additional tool developed by qmail developer Dan Bernstein to authenticate qmail users. I am not sure if it works with packages other than qmail or if it can be used independently without qmail. In my view u cant use checkpassword individually or with any other mail program.
