How do I tell if distcc is working?

When compiling, I get network traffic... but compiles still take an eternity.

localhost = 486 75mhz 24MB
other computer = 1.53ghz Athlon 768MB

I've been compiling ethereal for three hours.

Did you pass the CC variable to distcc?
