how do i start linux (kde, knoppix, gnome)

Hi, everyone, i have just installed coLinux, which should allow me to run linux under windows, it is a great idea. i think i have installed Debian linux successfully, but it does not work, i have successfully started cooperative linux console, and log in as root, get this prompt: colinux:`#:
what do i do now? i tried startkde and startx to start kde. it says command not found. how do start kde then or knoppix or gnome or something similar? i am sorry this questions might be very elementary. Thanks for everyone's help.

Nice suggestion guys...

So you think you installed Debian, I've never used coLinux or Debian (fortunately) but here's a guess. Maybe you didn't install X, once you've logged in, try this command, if it doesn't work then post the exact output.
Code:
apt-get install xserver-xorg
If it does work, then try startkde again. If you get the same error as before then you haven't installed KDE either I'm just guessing here but this might be the way to install KDE, wouldn't hurt to try at any rate
Code:
apt-get install kde
