Im new to linux - redhat 9 (console only - yea baby...)
I have ran an smtp / pop3 mail server for the past few yrs on win2000 on my domain. Now id like to switch to using linux for the mail servers.

Is there a default package that comes with RH9 for doing smtp/pop3 servers?


Got some help or web links on setting it up and getting it running?

you should already have a smtp server running but just for your local mail.
either "sendmail" "postfix" or maybe "exim".
you will have to reconfigure it for accepting mail for your domain.

I use postfix but whatever you have will likely get the job done.

then you need a pop3 server of some kind or imap if that will still suit your purposes.
check rpmfind.net
also make sure that the pop3 or imap server will be compatible with the type of mail boxes your smtp server is using.

often all the info to set the servers up will be right in the config file or the man page.

this may sound stupid, but im also a linux newbie...so pop3 doesnt come with linux 9? whats the ipop3 service for then?
