How do I share a monitor?

I would like to share a monitor on one computer, so it appears to be connected to another computer. Currently, I have 2 computers, one dual-head, one single-head, both running debian. For the moment, I'm using synergy to allow me to run programs on the second computer. However, it's a slow computer (raspberrypi). I would like to be able to have it act like another monitor directly connected to my main computer, so that I can slide programs from one screen to another.

I've searched the internet, and I get a lot of unrelated results. (teamviewer, screen, etc...)

Any Ideas?

If you want to move programs from one monitor to another, you will want to run the program via ssh and have both screens on the remote computer. The program running in the rasberry pi will be displayed on your desktop computer's screen.

Another possibility is running the rasberry pi's screen in an x-nest window.

There is also the hardware option.

If your monitor has 2 or more inputs, you can hook up computer #1 to input #1, computer #2 to input #2. Changing the computer using the display is done by switching between inputs, normally in the monitor OSD (on screen display) (not avaible on all monitors though, even those with 2 or more inputs).
