how do I reconfigure for mouse configuration that was inadvertantly removed?
 

On a server, that's been in current use for a while, before booting up a mistake was made in placing PS/2 mouse & keyboard (they were switched). Inadvertantly, (I think), the configuration for the mouse was deleted (as it was detected as no longer present), and now the mouse acts very strange in KDE, constantly jumping back to lower left corner & acting like you're dragging, etc.

How does one get to some software where we can select what the mouse is (MS wheel mouse), so it will act normally?!

I know in installation there's a screen that asks for the type of mouse. Can just that part be run from installation disks, or is that normally copied to HD & if so where & what is it. Reinstallation is probably not an option.

PS: I didn't do it (switch plugs or reboot) so it's possible he didn't delete the configuration, but did something else. I saw the message flash on the screen, but he's so fast I can't read the message before he's done something.

I know he ran kudzu, but that didn't do anything.

Oh! It's running Red Hat 7.2

Switch it back as it must be and run /usr/sbin/mouseconfig as root

Did that & got to something & selected (I thought) the right mouse (Intellimouse), clicked OK. Back at KDE screen mouse was still doing the same thing. Finally trying to move the mouse, it seemed to lock up the KDE screen - none of the keyboard shortcuts worked anymore & the mouse didn't work either.

Do I have to kill Xwindow (ctl-alt-backspace) (assuming even that will work) & restart Xwindows?
(I didn't try that as the company needed the server running for ongoing work).
