If you're still wondering, I have a Tungsten E working quite nicely with my Debian system.

Is there a way to browse a palm tungsten like a linux or windows file system ???

Yes. For example, I use this (called Filez):
http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/filez.shtml . Regular .prc to install - that should show you what actually happened to the picture files you used the gpilot-install-file . My guess is that it renamed your whatever.jpg file to whatever.pdb . Filez will let you rename.
I'm not actually sure how to install pics directly to the RAM, since I just use an SD card, and I have an SD reader/writer attached to my computer. But try Filez, see what shows up.
