How do I need to format grub entry to boot from grub2 into grub legacy?

Okay, so I currently run Ubuntu9.10, I installed Fedora12 to sda3 and wrote grub-legacy (during Fedora install process) to its local partition. How should my menu entry in 40_Custom look so that I can boot into it, I have tried the following:

Quote:

menuentry "Grub 1"
{
set root = (hd0,3)
chainloader + 1
}
and

Quote:

menuentry "Grub 1"
{
set root = (hd0,2)
chainloader + 1
}
Thanks for your help,
MJ

I think that part of your 40_custom needs to read as
Code:

menuentry "Grub-legacy" {
set root=(hd0,3)
chainloader (hd0,3)+1
}

Make sure there are no trailing spaces on any of those lines.

Then sudo update-grub and reboot.

I believe the third partition is (hd0,2) in grub.
Did they get rid of noverify ?

This guy reckons update-grub will sort it -

No, he's booting grub2, and the numbering has changed.

Seems odd to just change the style for partitions and leave disks zero based.

There's a lot about grub2 that is "odd", but in this case the numbering is now the same as the output from fdisk -l where partitions are numbered from 1 so I think it is a change for the better, even if we have all got used to subtracting 1 from the partition number for grub-legacy.

Well, I did some working with my system, and decided to use grub legacy as my primary grub, which launches Win7, Fedora, or Grub2 which is now on its own partition. So much easier to chain from legacy to grub2, someday I might have to try to work it out the other way around.

Thanks for all the responses BTW :)
