How do i make my desktop look boss?

Hey there, i'm a noob to linux and i'm pretty damn good with windows xp so switching is very hard, with windows xp i can change my desktop color theme with downloadable programs that change everything about windows' appearence. Is there any way to do this in Mandrake Linux 9.2? also i saw some screenshots on the mandrake site and i was wondering if anyone knew how to make your start menu and windows transparent. If anyone can help me with this i'd realy appreciate it. Thanks.

It different for every desktop and window manager out there.
In KDE the options you want to play with are right at the top of the control panal.

The KDE control panel. It's different from your system one. I'm not sure where the menu would be in mandrake, but you should be able to get to it by opening a console window and typing "kcontrol"
