how do I load legacy libraries?

I have Icepack Linux with the 2.4.17 kernel.

I want to play the ancient text-based game adventure, so I downloaded it. It needs the old libc.so5. I downloaded it and put it in the /root/lib but the rpm installer still says there is an unsatisfied dependency that relies on libc.so5

I have a couple of unrelated questions you might know the answer to: How do I uninstall something and make sure I'm getting rid of everything that belongs to it?

How do I install the new kernel (the front page of this forum is showing 2.4.18 as the current stable kernel) to replace the 2.4.17 one, and do I really want to do this?

don't bother with a new kernel, your one is only two months old or something. it's fine

rpm's do not satisfy their dependencies by the files you have on the system, they onl go by the files that are *meant* to be there according to the rpm database. you'll have to either force the installation or install an rpm that does contain teh dependency.
