as he said satinet.....he's a n00b. Why would he know that a Windblows .exe wouldn't work in Linux??

It's better NOT to show annoyance/frustration when answering a question. Are we not all interested in promoting Linux and it's users?

If you can't have patience and they annoy you that much then don't answer.

lol true.

I didn't mean to sound as though I was on my high horse but I've had a few people answer questions to me on forums where I'm also a n00b and their tone/manner left me thinking that I should be somewhere else :-)

I've had it pointed out to me recently that CS is not my strong point and told to "Work Harder" at it lol.

Cheers

J

thanks satinet, true laziness will drive some batty. BTW, there is no noob section for gamers here...

it's not soo much laziness as is after 1 1/2 weeks in Linux (never used before) nobody mentioned you couldn't use an .exe file in Linux.i'll be the first to admit i hate reading endless pages of boring tech crap when i never find the answer.....thus, i get to annoy you penguin guru's!

anyway, you did give me the answer so it's all good. on the Mepis forum, i can't even annoy folks enough to get a response.

thx again buddy.....

yeah, i registered at mepislovers, but they must all be busy loving mepis because you don't get any responses.... not that i need to post a question very often of course

well, linux and windows are fundamentally different. that's one of the main things that you need to learn - linux is not windows. some things will give you joy somethings will make you wanna kill yourself.

enjoy UT

you can use wine or cedega to run ut2004 (im using cedega curently) but there is a linux version of ut2004. the windows version will not work under linux w/o using a third party application. I've been looking for the client install for linux because I think you can just use the linux installer with the windows cds (because all the files are the same except for the instaler). If you really want it w/o hassle buy the linux version but keep in mind ut2007 comes out in october YAY!!!

and to johnnybhoy67 and satinet windows .exe files do not work natively in linux yes but they do work. So try not to give misleading information. I'm running Diablo II LOD, Warcraft III, Guild Wars, WoW, UT2004, and Starcraft on linux which all of .exe files. Not only that but the game updates were "Windblows .exe" files which ran and installed fine.

IIRC, UT2004 shipped with the linux binaries/installer on the disc. I can confirm it is on my DVD version and a pretty penguin on the box

yea, i got the linux file on the first CD of the set. but i found an upgrade elsewhere that said it would work. 3369.2 i beleive it is.

anyway, i'm gonna try the install later today. i'm new to the console/shell dept.....

October on the 2007? man i can't wait. i hope to have that dual processor rig up and running by then. from what i've heard, it may leave my system behind.
