It's far more helpful to give practical instructions rather than forcing someone who might not know any better to use difficult command line mathods unnecessarily.
I doubt that it was difficult since the user said he was successful in resolving his problem using the method I posted. Different people prefer different methods and as long as they work, I don't see a problem. Also the user was not forced to do anything, he could have completely ignored my advice if he wished. Since this is an open forum and free for all, if you are not happy with the type or quality of help given to others, then you are more than welcome to post your own alternative solutions.

Thumbs up Thanks

Reddazz,

Just wanted to say thanks for that info. I've been dabbling with Linux for a while but Ubuntu has enticed me to move even further by installing it to my main PC. Now, it's not a 'REAL' installation >, it's virtual through Wubi. Regardless, you've taught me how to 'launch' a bunch of apps. My biggest gripe with Linux was not being able to double click to run or install stuff. Through deduction of your method, I simply cruised into the navigator directory and clicked on navigator and it worked...yay! Now I'm doing it with a bunch of programs I downloaded.

Anyway, thanks again.

Steps to run netscape 9.0 on ubuntu:

1. download the tarball
2. extract the tarball
3. run"sudo apt-get install libstdc++5" to install older libraries needed by netscape
4. run netscape as a non-root user: "./navigator"
