Question How do I install Mandriva one KDE 2007 after downloading the zip file?

I have downloaded the Mandriva one KDE 2007 OS but I am absolutely new with Linux and I do not know what comes next. I read that I have to burn that info into a CD and then run the CD to install the linux OS but I have already burnt the info into a CD and my Laptop (Compaq presario F505LA) does not seem to boot the OS even if I change the booting options from the BIOS.

I may be doing something wrong but I cannot figure it out.

Mandriva is not a zip file, it should be an iso. If a zip file is indeed what you have got there, then that is a first explanation why it does not work.

Also it needs to be burnt as an iso - not as a simple data cd. Most cd burning applications have an option to do that.

Take a look at your burned CD in Windows. If it just contains one file (something like Mandrake_one_kde.iso) then you have done it wrong! You should see at least two folders, called something like 'boot' and 'isolinux', plus various other files.
The Zenwalk manual as a nice clear guide on how to burn an ISO, take a look here:
http://manual.zenwalk.org/en/ch02s03.html
Obviously it relates to Zenwalk but the principal is the same for all distros.
