how do i hack in to ROOT?


we made a password for root right? well we've forgotten the password and we can't do any administrative tasks. we've tried our password but it didn't work so we asked, and somebody said something about sudo, i thought it answered everything, just to find out that typing sudo does not work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HELP!

In ubuntu root passwd = user passwd, since you have to use sudo and you can't login directly as root.

To reset it, do a "chroot" from a live-cd to your main installation and use "passwd" to change the password.

Talking crack root passwd

please specify which distro you are using.

Just boot from a live CD, mount the / partion and removed the password field "x" in /etc/passwd file for root. You can go inside without a passwd and once loged in as root change the passwd and restore the original configuration.
