How do I get openGL to work if there is no linux driver for my video card?
 

With Nvidia it was so easly, you just download and run the .bin file and it automatically installs the driver and openGL and everything works, ie games.

But my laptop uses the Mobility Radeon 320m, and no linux drivers exist for it. The generic Radeon driver that comes with X doesn't work with this card. I am now using the vesa driver. I would like someone to explain to me how I can get openGL to work with the vesa driver. I don't expect the performance to be very good, but I'm not gonna play games, the only reason I need openGL to work is because I use this laptop to program and one of the programming languages I work with is Java3D, which requires openGL.

You've got your work cut out for you friend. ATI's website doesn't list anything called a Mobility Radeon 320m. Their numbers are four digit only, ranging from aroung 8500 to 9500 or some such designation. I'd suggest you investigate a bit more closely what's in the box, then check ATI's website at www.ati.com/support/driver.html.

Superdude, the vesa driver does not work with opengl. You will have to get the radeon driver to work. I did some searching and this has come up a few times on this board before. I don't have the same card myself ( I have a Radeon 9800 pro, which I must say runs like a champ on my Suse 9.0 installation ) so I can't verify anything that any of the posts say.
