How do I expand the virtal machine console window
 

I am running centos 5 (x86_64) as a xen host and have created a guest running Fedora 8 (x86). I can expand the virtual machine monitor window for the guest but the guest area does not expand along with the window. When I installed Windows 2003 server as a guest, I was able to expand the guest area by changing the windows display properties (changing screen resolution causes windows to expand to the size of the virtual console window). Attempting to do the same on the Fedora guest does not produce the same results.

I have done a google search for this problem but found nothing that addresses it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My first thought to your suggestion was "Read the manual? What a novel idea." :-) (I've been using the book Xen Virtualization as my main source of information.) Which manual are you talking about? I reviewed the xen user manual (http://tx.downloads.xensource.com/downloads/docs/user/) but couldn't find any discussion on the virtual machine console - just the serial console. Clicking help in the virtual machine console didn't do anything. Either I didn't include the help system during install or there is no help yet.

Can you point me to the manual?

The problem was not in the virtual machine console. It was in the guest. The host recognized the monitor type and video card appropriately during install. The guest did not. It only gave me choices of screen resolution up to 800x640. By specifying the correct monitor type, my screen resolution choices increased to a maximum of 1280x864. Choosing 1280x864 increased the screen size in the virtual machine console.

Yep. The size should be set by the guest. The problem might be the driver that you choose, or your settings in xorg.conf. Either way it should be a guest thing.
