How do I disable nm-applet?

I am trying to avoid dirty hacks like chmod -x, deleting, renaming uninstalling etc.

Not sure about Gentoo, but on my Fedora 16 system, /etc/xdg/autostart contains all of the desktop files for apps that are auto-started for any user.
