Angry How do I circumvent banned ports in Konqueror?

Running Suse 8.2 and Konqueror. Have to get to a site that
runs on port 143 (but it's not really IMAP). I keep running into the following error...

Access to restricted port in POST denied

One suggestion was modifying

$HOME/.kde/share/config/kio_httprc

and adding

OverridePorts=53,143

Also modified

/opt/kde3/share/config/kio_httprc

to no avail.

Circumvented a similar problem with Galeon and Mozilla

by modifying all.js and adding....

user_pref("network.security.ports.banned.override", "53,143");

Normally ports are restricted by firewall rules, so your konq settings are new to me. Are you running a firewall by any chance?

I am running an ipchains firewall but have opened holes for this site and it all works well from my firewall machine (Redhat 7.1). It's only when I upgraded to Suse 8.2 (without checking all the things that would fail...shame on me). It's distinctly not the firewall since this does work under Suse 8.2 with Galeon and Mozilla, but I want to run konqueror.

A friend and I even tried to track the problem using ethereal but that did not work since my packet never left my machine. It's a bug or security feature under new browsers.

I had to modify a setup file for Mozilla (and thus Galeon) to make it work there....

hmm, if I can still read english, you have 2 computers one is set up as a dedicated firewall only and its your suse / mandrake computer we are talking about.

I can't help you.

If you are interested, the firewall guarddog has an option to make a rule lets call it 143 and then you allow rule 143 access to the net. www.rpmfind.net should have a RH with luck. Otherwise the author site is
