How can i tell if an RPM has been installed?


Well, i installed

Apollon
Gaim 0.79

Both from RPMs but the prob is. Where can i find them? how do i know if they have been installed? there is no icon on my desktop...

Please no super advanced mega command line answers... im new... i can use the command line for installing programs but thats about it. im fairly new to linux...

if it helps im using, Mandrake 10 on Gnome

Hi!

rpm -qa | grep gaim
rpm -qa | grep apollon
that tells you if a packet was installed containing "gaim"/"apollon" in it's name.
I think you can start gaim simply with "gaim" and apollon with "apollon". after a restart of gnome there will be icons too, at least on my system they update after a restart of X.
Here's a little tip, write "ga" or "gai" and hit TAB-button, if the command will not be completed hit it twice and all commands starting with "ga" will be listed. You can use TAB on other commands too.

thanks! i will try that, but it is the same with Gnome?

ok i will be right back then, im going to restart!

well, i restarted.. i still dont see anything there..

im going to see if i messed anything up...

so you can't see any new icons in the menu. what does "rpm -qa | grep gaim" say? is it installed or not? can you start it from the console?

when i type that in, nothing happens, no errors no nothing. its just blank

and no, i cant start it from the console...
