How can I set up Ardour to record with my bass pedal.

Hey. This is my first post on this website so I wanted to ask how to do something because I got Linux just because I could run ardour. But now that I it I dont know how to use it or make it work at all. I am currently running my recording with a bass pedal that supports recording. I did get a crappy recording on the defalut sound recorder but I dont know what kind of settings I need on Ardour to make it work. The audio codec that the pedal sends as or whatever is PCM2904 Audio Codec Analog Stereo. If you need any more info to help me I will be more than willing to find it out for you. Thanks in Advance.

Hi, I too have travelled this path.

I have written a tute on how to setup my pc with mandriva using

realtime audio, specifically to record and monitor my own instruments.

It won't answer your question, but it may give you an idea what to look for.

There is some things about setting up your system for Adour.

see the link to "my blog" in the lower panel

Regards Glenn

Have you managed to record on ardour using the standard microphone inputs?

Hmm well Im not to worried about hardware priorities but what I'm mainly concerned about is why Ardour won't read my inputs but sound prefs does. In sound prefs I changed it to my bass and sound recorder works too? Im kinda confused. Also do any of you recommend switching to ubuntu studio?

I've never tried ubunto studio, although I have read some good things about it's simplicity of setup!

That said, do you use jackd to monitor and control your ins and outs (patchbay)?

If not, you should consider it.

Ardour acts like your OS, you need to tell it everything, the driver must be available and know by ardour.

Using jackd (patchbay) circumvents this. And therefore you may have as many instruments connected as you have inputs available for them.

Generally, I use Hydrogen with acoustic drum samples, Rosegarden for midi (file editing, compilation and playback) with fluidsynth samples.

For a simple song with my guitar and vox mic I have done 14 tracks at once with effects and live monitoring. (edit, but only recording the vox and guitar)

It can be done, but you may have to read more. The Ardour manual, as well as all the tutes out there on the web, and for jack too.

cheers, and all the best.

I wouldn't use Ubuntu anything. I've had several different releases of regular Ubuntu, I've had Ubuntu studio, I've had Mint... and I don't care what anyone tells you, Ubuntu is not stable.

I run Ardour just fine on a Debian Lenny machine. Is Ardour actually starting up? If it is then Ardour is talking to Jack properly and your lack of sound capture is a setup issue. Can you tell us how far you've gotten?

I can only suggest checking the specs for the keyboard, and theses sites for any reports....

links....
You may be missing a plugin for alsa, or pulse, or xine or mplayer or gstreamer or something (phonon, faac, fmpeg). Especially "lib(64)alsa-plugins"
