I needed a working server so I decided I'd try an easy distro. The easy distro came with alsa set up so I tried to get that to work. Well I screwed myself by using the easy distro because I have no idea how the thing is supposed to work because I didn't have to read anything to get it running in the first place. Now I have a via82xx.c from CVS but I don't know how to patch or make it into a module or whatever I'm supposed to do with it. I'm assuming it's not to be made into a module, it's a bit slim for that .

I searched as much as I could but I couldn't find anything, I have horrid luck with internet searches.

also, from what I just read the one you're using is for oss, I don't know if the default kernel has oss emulation for that to work. I'd try a re-compile but the xconfig for this is pathetically cluttered and hard to use.
