How Can I Lessen The Power Of Compiz-Fusion?

I found that on my ubuntu 8.04, that compiz-fusion was to blame for my slow scrolling on writer and video viewing problems. I like compiz-fusion. But, how can I lessen its intensity enough to allow me to view video without any problems (like blue gridlines on vlc) and to scroll in writer without any sluggishness? I only want to enable 2 or 3 features on it, that all. But, I want to do so without inviting again any of the problems mentioned. Do I need to edit a file or something?

You may need to install the Advanced Desktop Effects Settings tool. Go to Applications > System > Synaptic Package Manager, search for compiz, and install compizconfig-settings-manager. For some reason this is not part of the default install, though all the other bits are. Once it is installed, it appears on the Applications > Settings menu.

Also have a look at this FAQ - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=809695

Hi, sadiqdm, thanks for the reply. I did install compizconfig-settings-manager but I can't find it in apps>settings. Settings doesn't exist under Applications. What do you suggest?
