How can I install new KDE to elim kbd locking after logon?

I sobmitted a guestion last week before I knew for sure that KDE (whichever version tame with Kubuntu 9.04) is causing the lockup. I reluctantly installed Gnome today and the beyxoard doesn't lock, but my brain does--I find gnome very confusing, But then I'v. been using KDE for nine years. I tried to register on the KDE site but was kicked off for failing to duplicate the pastel-on-pastel confirmation code six times!

Hi, I guess you have tried renaming the ~/.kde folder or creating a new user to see if it's just a user setting....

Then depending on which distribution you use you can reinstall the thing. On debian based systems, you'd want to apt-get remove --purge <those-kde-packages> and then install again. This may be tricky for there may be dependencies and many things can get lost so double caution! I find aptitude less prone to committing a messy operation.

How can I install new KDE to elim kbd locking

Tried removing old KDE and reinstalling since posting this thread. Problem persisted. Then I thought I would install Karmic--have a 500Mb HD. Selected install parallel and allow choice at boot but all I get is Karmic, and it's Gnome at that. Was going to look for old files using Knoppix but it won't work. Fortunately I had backed up the most important files but it will take time to reload the others. Am making a new Jaunty disc on another machine (didn't label the old one well enough to find it now).

Had a bad experience with this one (a third machine, with XP which I hate). Downloading the latest KDE worked, but W&&*(^ wouldn't let me copy it to a CD because it doesn't like the .iso extention!
