how can I get more slide buttons in kmix?

Hi all,

Just gave the Mepis 6.5 and Kubuntu Feisty live cd a try and was slightly more impressed with Mepis as it got my wireless and wide laptop screen resolution both working perfectly, kubuntu failed in both. but what I liked very much about Kubuntu was kmix sound mixer panel as it had slide bars for all features of my laptop's sound (acer travelmate 2480) where as Mepis only got three or four slide bars. does any one know a way to either get more slide bars or get the mixer from Kubuntu in Mepis? I think they both used the same version of KDE.

thanks,
ron

don't know much about kmix but tryt to learn to use the command "amixer"
try it by itself to see what i mean. it gives you access to all your controlls.

Click on Properties and check the sliders that you are going to use.

thanks for your responses,

to jay73: i cannot find properties and no other way to see where one can check or uncheck which sliders I want to see. i have looked under kmix->settings and in mepis control centre under sound and multimedia. this is till under mepis 6.0 as i still haven't upgraded to 6.5 yet, although in mepis 6.5 live cd mode it shows the same sliders as i see now with my current installation.

to studioj: i have issued the commands on both my current mepis installation and under kubuntu live cd mode on the same machine and this is what I get:

Code:

ron@1[~]$ amixer scontrols
Simple mixer control 'Headphone',0
Simple mixer control 'PCM',0
Simple mixer control 'Front',0
Simple mixer control 'Line',0
Simple mixer control 'Mic',0
Simple mixer control 'IEC958',0
Simple mixer control 'Capture',0
Simple mixer control 'Capture',1
Simple mixer control 'Caller ID',0
Simple mixer control 'Input Source',0
Simple mixer control 'Input Source',1
Simple mixer control 'Off-hook',0

these are exactly the controls and switches i have in my current installation of mepis and kmix.

when I run of kubuntu live cd and give this command i get this:

Code:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ amixer scontrols
Simple mixer control 'Headphone',0
Simple mixer control 'PCM',0
Simple mixer control 'Front',0
Simple mixer control 'Front Mic',0
Simple mixer control 'Front Mic Boost',0
Simple mixer control 'Surround',0
Simple mixer control 'Center',0
Simple mixer control 'LFE',0
Simple mixer control 'Side',0
Simple mixer control 'Line',0
Simple mixer control 'CD',0
Simple mixer control 'Mic',0
Simple mixer control 'Mic Boost',0
Simple mixer control 'PC Speaker',0
Simple mixer control 'Capture',0
Simple mixer control 'Capture',1
Simple mixer control 'Caller ID',0
Simple mixer control 'Channel Mode',0
Simple mixer control 'Input Source',0
Simple mixer control 'Input Source',1
Simple mixer control 'Off-hook',0

i also made screen shots of it all but i am not sure if and how these can be posted here.

thanks
ron

Oh man you have a driver that is not "seeing" all your hardware.

can you compare the drivers or modules controling the device ?

I was going to say in the beginning all kmix does is loop through and find all the alsa devices presented by the driver.

not sure how to do that
