hotplug firmware loading problem
hello again!
as you can all see i have another problem, this time with the hotplug firmware loading during boot. i installed the ipw2100 and its firmware for my centrino notebook, followed correctly all instructions, tried different versions of the drivers & firmware and i still get an error on boot. it says: ipw2100: intel pro wireless 2100 at address ....... (address of card) ipw2100: firmware loading failed ipw2100: firmware ...... (name of file) does not exist or failed to load i checked several times for the existence of the files in /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware, checked their permissions, checked the hotplug startup scripts etc. why wont it load?????? oh and i should mention that the FIRST time i installed the driver and the firmware they were working perfectly until one day i got this error about the firmware not loading and i wasn't able to use the wi-fi ever since. |
like most things look for a
/usr/share/doc/packages/wireless-tools/README.firmware or someplace simmilar then go http://ipw2100.sourceforge.net/firmware.php to see if you have the right one for your version did you update the driver or something ??? |
no this was before updating the driver. i am absolutely sure i have the correct version of firmware for the specific driver. i even updated to the latest driver & firmware (removing the old ones) but no luck. it's like the firmware loading function of the hotplug isn't there. i read the doc page you gave me, doesnt say anything specific about my problem. thanks anw.
i should mention that the ipw2100 module loads up fine, the card is detected at bootup but when its time for the firmware it all screws up. also, the processes mentioned above happen before loading rc.hotplug at boot but this didnt matter before. is there any way i can load the module and firmware after the "rc.hotplug start"? |
