Hiding Drives in linux

Hi All

Is there way to hide drives in linux through code.

I am not looking for a mount/unmount solution.

Like if I want to sdb not to show up anymore ??

Any help will be much appreciated.

You could change the permissions on the /dev/sdb node, or just delete it. Udev could be setup to do this automatically, assuming this is the same drive you want to disable all the time.

Though it would still be possible to see a drive was detected by the kernel. I suppose it depends on what your definition of "hide" is in this case. In other words, do you want to make it impossible for software to recognize the hardware, or do you just want to keep normal users from accessing it.

Who are you hiding it from, and why?

The intention is that this drive is not shown on "fdisk -l" or similar utilities in linux not user specific,

I see there are few ways to do this on windows, still looking for a linux solution.

A utility that does it for windows is

Why not just block access to the fdisk command for the users who you want to hide it from?

as far as i know, fdisk -l outputs NOTHING at all unless run as root, so not sure what your intentions are.
