When I try to start X, I get the following error:
Quote:
Fatal server error:
Cannot open log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log"
...some stuff about reporting errors...
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.
|
I then tried going into /var/log, and ran ls:
Quote:
/usr/bin/ls: cron: Permission denied
/usr/bin/ls: nfsd: Permission denied
|
And so on for the following files:
cron, nfsd, uucp, XFree86.0.log, messages, debug, samba, maillog, XFree86.0.log.old, spooler.1, scrollkeeper.log, apache, cron.1, iptraf, secure
...this is with me logged in as root... I tried chown and chmod'ing them, but that is just causing "Permission Denied" errors as well... All I have done since my last reboot was try to run Hitman2 through WineX... I doubt that would cause a problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am currently posting this through lynx. Lynx is a pretty nifty program though, now that I've tried it
Thanks.
