help with vsftp


how can I set it up so that the outside world could access it right now I can only access it from my own network

any onw has any thoughts or ideas?

Well, if you want people to help you then first you need to help them. I can't read your mind and (always) understand your problem.

First, how do you connect to the internet? Do you have regular ol' dialup (I bet you don't!) Do you have cable or DSL where you plug your network card into a DSL modem? Are you on a home network all connected to the internet through a router or firewall? These are very important questions in helping me diagnose your problem.

my bad about the double posting I thought I was posting in the wrong section

I have a cable modem and I connect my computer throught a router. I already opened the port 21 in the router

I have red hat 9

I have a file called /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf that I've edited to change the behavior of the server. That's where you should look.

i've been playing in that file the last couple of days but I think I found the answer my ISP blocks that port so I wont host a server of any kind I have to move it to another port I think
I need to add "listen_port" but its not working

You might need to open up port 20, as well. The connection is established over port 21, the data goes over port 20 (unless you're using passive ftp).
