I've been trying to get RP10 to work with Knoppix 3.7 and Mozilla in order to view streaming media. It has been a couple days of trying and I give up. I've downloaded several versions including bin, gz, and rpm. I've learned that the rpm is not compatable with debian and ran a converter (alien) to get a deb file.
Clicking on the bin file calls up "wine" which exits with an error code 1. I finally got wine working and it tells me that the bin file is a unix binary and does not work with wine. ARRRGGGGGGG! Why did "wine" pop up when it was not needed in the first place?
I suspect that all my problems are permission, write access and path related but I've got no idea how to proceed.
Anybody had any luck with RP and knoppix?
I found the Mozella plugin directory on Novell linux but it is not in the same spot on Knoppix.
What do I need to put where and in what "shell" ?
BTW I did figure out how to get Flash installed. Clicking did not work so I had to go command line, find the directory and type in one line. I assumed the RP install would be similar but it is a bit tuffer.
My command line skill is minimal. I know cd and dir. Seems like "make" came into play somewhere as did "alien".
I've been trying for days and I did a search of this website for "knoppix realplayer" but nothing came up. Thanks for not ripping on me. So often when I ask a linux question someone tells me to "search". Search is great if you have enough knowlege to know what to search for. Anyway thanks again.
I found the directory that the Mozilla pluging need to go into but it is deaulted to "read only" and grayed out so you can't change it. How can I copy the plugin files to a read only directory?
I read up on file permissons and ran "chmod" from root. An error showed up saying "read only file system". I suspect that the file I'm looking at is on the cd so it can't be changed. This makes me think that Knoppix is not going to be RealPlayer compatable at all.
Has anyone got RP to work with a live cd version of Knoppix?
I tried Klik and could not get it to work. The command they tell you to type does not install their client on my system nor is the second line any help. I finally got the client to install by typing "klik.atekon.de/client/install" into the browser, copying the text to a local file, changing the file type to executable, and running the new local file. At the end of this process I got a message saying that the client was installed and I could now just single click "Klik" files. I clicked on RP10, the mouse turns into a gear for a while and then turns back to the regular arrow but RealPlayer still is not installed. I know the Klik client installed because I have a new menu option that reads "Applications (installed by klik)" and a submenu"Install more software" Clicking on install more software calls up the "klik" website but cliking on RP10 does nothing.
BTW I can get RealPlayer to install good enough to play local files, it is the browser plugin that is causing all the trouble.
What browser are you using? If you are not using Konqueror give it a try with klik. Firefox will work, however if you had to install the klik client you need to restart Firefox for it to work properly.
