I have recently tried to setup ProFTPd on my mandrake machine and is running. I can type ftp localhost in console and it goes to log in but when I try to log in with anonymous it says bad password. But when I log in with my user name and pw for mandrake it works fine. I deleted all entries for the ftpusers file except for root uucp and news. I also looked at the passwd file but don't know what to do with it. Any help regaurding the setup of accounts for ProFTPd would be great. Version is 1.2.7, I think there is a new version but I will look later I need to go to work.
first you have to be root, second if you still get command not found as root, then you'll have to specify its exact location as that means its not in your PATH ... and then it'll work ..
