Question Help with KDE

Hey everyone,

I have Red Hat 8.0 and I am currently running KDE 3.0. I noticed the other day that KDE 3.1 was released. So I tried downloading some RPMs. After I downloaded all of them, I tried installing the arts packages. The installation fails out and says that "libmad.so.0 is needed". So I went and installed libmad. The installation created the file libmad.a in my /usr/lib directory but not the "libmad.so.0" file. I wasn't really worried about this because I figured I just wasn't seeing everything. So I went and tried installing the arts package again. It still says the same error. I don't know what else to do. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks,
Shane

You may be able to use the -nodeps switch with the normal rpm whatever command. I haven't used a rpm distro in so long that I can't remember the full command set.

Try a man rpm in a terminal window for more info.

Here's an example I found searching:

rpm -Uvh --nodeps --force *.rpm

Use at your own risk!
