Help with kde 2.2.2 build

I posted this question in the general section, but I didn't get any responses, so I am posting this here again!

I just finished building kde 2.2.2 from source, but it closes down after it starts up. KDE fails with the error complaining about the "dcopserver" and not being able to setup the inter-process communication. How can I fix this?

I am using slackware 8.0 with fvwm and icewm

My initial goal was to get KDevelop working, but even when I type kdevelop from the prompt I get the following error message output to the console.

kdeinit: Launched DCOPServer, pid = 2010 result = 0

sh: iceauth: command not found
ICE Connection rejected!
DCOPClient::attachInternal. Attach failed Authentication Rejected, reason : None
of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authenti
cation failed

Thumbs up Here is how I fixed it!

I love to answer my posts :P

OK, I rebuilt kde2.2.2 again with the prefix set to /opt/kde and I got it to work!

I also edited my bash profile to include qt environment variable settings which I believe was the actual reason kde was not working in the first place.

For others thinking of building kde from source, building kde is that difficult, but it does require a good day to build all the binaries, and maybe longer if you have to do some read up before begining.

I've found that kde built from source is much faster and more reliable then prebuilt packages, but it could take a few tries before you get a good feel for what you're doing :P

The configure I used was the following:

CFLAGS=-02 ./configure --prefix=/opt/kde \
--disable-debug \
--with-qt-dir=/usr/local/qt \
--with-qt-includes=/usr/local/qt/include/ \
--with-qt-libraries=/usr/local/qt/lib/

NOTE: you're qt path may be different then my, which happens to be /usr/local/qt, so change it to where you qt libs and header files are found

for the kdebase and kdesdk I added the, --with-x switch to configure

for kdemultimedia I added added the following switch to configure (which are optional based on your current setup)

--with-x \
--enable-ncurses \
--enable-slang \
--enable-tcltk \
--enable-gtk \

If you're using motif you can use, --enable-motif
