i get an error running tuxracer...

Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
*** tuxracer error: Couldn't initialize video: Couldn't find matching GLX visual
(Success)

and that's it...doesn't do anything more...at one point i had tux racer running, then i had to reinstall linux...it wasn't running, then i got it running, but sluggish, then i downloaded some drivers from Nvidia and i've got this error.
so...yeah...help me please...

thanks.

ok...so i wasn't sure about the drivers i installed, but i found newer ones that are specifically for mandrake 8.2 and nvidia cards...so i think i'm alright there, but i still get the exact same error message.

how do i go about fixing this?

How do you install NVIDIA drivers? Read instructions supplied at their website, you should exit X before attmpting to install the drivers, if the error still persists, get the source files (aka src.rpm or tar.gz) and install from those.
P.S. Don't forget to edit /etc/X11?XF86Config-4 file according to instructions, these are easy to follow.

I'm having the same problem I have GLX installed and have added load "glx" under module in the XFree86 config file, but still no luck. I'm running Mandrake 8.1 with the 4.something versions of XFree. Note: the tuxracer games does start under the old XFree version (3.6?) but after pressing enter at the startup screen, tuxracer goes away and KDE is locked up.

I am NOT running an NVidia or Voodoo card, only an ATI card - on the ATI driver site it says that XFREE 4.0 and above supports OpenGL software for my card without needing hardware -based OpenGL support --Is this true? Has anyone been able to get tuxracer running on an ATI card?

I'm struggling also with a Radeon because I am moving on up from the "Windows" world. I'm finally seeing a little support from ATI by at least giving me a link on their site for a driver and what seems to be adequate info. I am, however, considering moving towards GeForce. If anyone has resolved the problem with this setup please let me know. I felt extremely patriotic when I purchased Tux Racer at full price. Now, I feel like a traitor because I can only play it in Windows. Sorry. :(
