Unhappy help Why can't I patch the kernel???

I must patch my kernel . The current kernel version is
2.4.19-16mdk , but our company need the envirement :
linux-2.4.19
usagi-linux24-stable-20021007.2.4.19.diff.bz2

because I have the linux version 2.4.19 (mandrake 9.0) ,so I download the file usagi-linux24-stable-20021007.2.4.19.diff.bz2 ,
run command bunzip2 usagi-linux24-stable-20021007.2.4.19.diff.bz2 , and

patch usagi-linux24-stable-20021007.2.4.19.diff
but the computer died , what can i do?

I also cp the file usagi-linux24-stable-20021007.2.4.19.diff to
/usr/src , and run ./linux/scripts/kernel-patch , the computer told me that " sorry, but you can't patch the kernel in diffrent kernel tree" , what can i do?

help me , thanks

what does "died" mean

you should be applying the patch the the original source, and not `a distibution dervied kernel, as most kernels are modified by the distro developers, and so patches may fail as they are not the same as the proper kernel from krenel.org you should compile a proper one and then should be able to patch it ok
