Help! Sound


My sound works for everything(Gaim, soundcard test) but music(Cd Player, Audio Player)

HELP!!!

Have you tried using XMMS? That's the only thing that works for me.

Also, make sure your audio cable is connected from your CD drive... Mine is, but it still doesn't play, and I've found XMMS is the only thing that works. However, I know a lot of people overlook connecting that cable (seems to be the main reason most people have problems with CD sound in Linux... Windows doesn't seem to care as much)

Redhat and Redhat's Fedora distributions come without the required mp3 support files. You can get an rpm file for mp3 support in XMMS and a host of other things here: http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/0.95/i386/yum/stable/RPMS/

I had that problem and it would work as root but not as user so i changed the permissions and cdplayer works woohoo.
1) ls -l /dev/cdrom
2) ls -l /dev/hdx (where x is your cdrom drive.)
3) sudo chmod a+r /dev/hdc (mine is hdc)
