Help, Qmail!

Hi, I have installed Qmail, and sendmail is still installed but shut down, I also installed qpopper via: apt-get install qpopper "pop3 client" now when i login to check my e-mails i have loads! they send about every 10mins saying:

sendmail: illegal option -- q
sendmail: usage: sendmail [ -t ] [ -fsender ] [ -Fname ] [ -bp ] [ -bs ] [ arg ... ]

and one saying:

/etc/cron.daily/webalizer:
Error: Skipping oversized log record

This is weird because sendmail shouldent be using anything its not running!

I have checked all current running processes in "Webmin" and none of them are sendmail.

Any suggestions?

Errr... they (the higher ups who created qmail) recommend you uninstall sendmail completely. Check here: http://lifewithqmail.com/lwq.html

I found running your own DNS service helps as well... esp. djbdns.

And I highly recommend following every step and suggestion. It took me friggin two weeks to set up qmail / spamAssassin / antivirus properly for our workplace.

Yeah. qmail ain't easy to install but I do like it a lot. I'm running a mail server on an old overclocked Athlon (1st gen -- the ones with the huge heatsinks) at 750Mhz with 512 RAM, with RH 9. It hasn't been down... ever.

Is there a reason why you'd need sendmail AND qmail???

Nice, no there isnt a reason, I just dident think to uninstall it and instead i disabled it! i went to remove it but it wanted to remove 6other packages with it!

find away to do it without apt-get remove sendmail .

Words directly from the how-to doc:

"You should also consider removing the old MTA completely from the system. At least disable the init.d script so it doesn't try to start up again when the system is rebooted."

and make sure to kill the pid for sendmail.
