Help needed with codecs for mplayer installed by RPM

I installed the mplayer rpm packages and the player works great on dvds and avi's but it dosent play RM and i dont think divx but i havent tried yet i have the real media codec package from mplayer's websight but i have no idea what to do with them i checked the fourms and on google and everyone said put them in /usr/lib/win32 and usr/local/lib/win32 and to run this to make shure they are the directories where they are looked for "strings `which gmplayer` | grep lib/win32" and it said the 2 directories i just mentioned but they dont exist. so i made /usr/lib/win32 and put all the codecs i wanted in it. then to be shure i made a link to it in /urs/local/lib/ but when i ram mplayer it still wouldent run RM files if anyone could help that would be great
thanks in advance

I know when you compile mplayer you have to place the codecs in the directory befor compilation. I don't think you can place them in their after you compile, or in your cas add to your rpm later. I am not really sure on this, if I am wrong someone please correct me.

so do you think i should put them there then re-install rpm il try it anyway after i install gatos

I am not sure if that would work with the rpm.

You should try compiling from source it was surprisenly easy, infact, mplayer was my first install from source. Goto the mplayer home page and download the Mplayer0.92.tar file
then unpack it with the command
$tar -xvf exact_name_of_mplayer_package
$cd to the new untarred file
look for a file called README, it will tell you exactly what to do

also you will need to install your developmentel packages(before you can compile mplayer) off of your redhat cds, goto add/remove programs and install them.

actuially i am an idiot... geez a newbie being an idiot who knew :-) i went back to the sight where i got the rpm and it had a rpm to install the real codec and now most of them play great but when i open one up it says "not audio/video stream or unsuported" but it still playes but i have noticed a fiew files the sound is off from the video the sound starts before the video if anyone had any idea how to fix that or if you have seen it before.
thanks in advance
