Help me - Facing problem to boot windows XP after installing Fedora 8

Hi Everyone,

I am new to linux and very much interested to work in linux.

Few days before i installed windows XP / Fedora 6 (Dual OS) and everything was working fine. I was able to boot through Win XP and also through Fedora 6.

i recently insatlled Fedora 8. After installing fedora 8, Win XP does not boot. It says - NTLDR is missing but Fedora 8 works fine.

I think this is sometehing related to the boot loader.
Please help me to resolve this issue.

Usually, when you get a NTLDR error it means that the Windows partition or harddrive where Windows was installed was either incorrectly modified and more often than not, moved to a different place.

I've seen this problem happening when people mess around (resizing or moving) a Windows partition without defragmenting it correctly before moving/resizing it (did you resize or move when installing Fedora?).

I think the best way to fix your problem is to boot with your Windows XP cd, choose the option to repair during XP setup process and once you are at the command line, type "fixmbr" or fdisk /mbr to rewrite the master boot record. Keep in mind that this will remove Grub.

You will then need to boot with a Linux Live disk and restore the Grub loader. Just google for restore Grub loader and follow any tutorial you find easiest to follow.

Regards

Dear friend

This is the problem of Windows boot loader can't find the associated boot loader .You can simply solve the problem by doing follwing steps

1)Start Mechine
2)Select Windows XP and press e
3) Select the second line like "norootverify(hd0,4)"
4) Change the value of partion number like (hd0,0),(hd0,1) like
5) After every change trying to boot by simply press b
Suppose windows is booting after you change the value from (hd0,4) to (hd0,2) update it in /boot/grub/grub.conf file

Thanking You
