Help with Aspell Lib and Gaim 0.62

EDIT: Sorry about the odd name. I figured out how to get root access on the term and now I have a new problem (took me 3 hours todo this! i'm very slow) and I didn't know if it would be ok to make a new thread. Apparently, I can't change the real title but I can everything else. odd... ok then.

Ok, I got to a root term with the Drake Control Panel thing and I insalled aspell. However, when I try to "make" Gaim 0.62, I get an error message:

Quote:
libtool: link: cannot find the library '/usr/lib/libaspell.la'
but when I do the whereis command in GNOME Terminal (non root) I get:

Quote:
[kenneth@x1-6-00-40-2b-13-b7-b7 kenneth]$ whereis aspell
aspell: /usr/bin/aspell /usr/lib/aspell /usr/local/bin/aspell /usr/share/aspell
Do I need an older version of aspell? Or can I make Gaim look for the aspell library elsewhere? Rather than the default place? Thanks

Did you actually check to see if:
/usr/lib/libaspell.la

existed?

As david_ross suggested, do a locate libaspell.la
If it is not in /usr/lib/ where gaim is looking for it then you will have to add the path where it is to /etc/ld.so.conf and run 'ldconfig' to reflect the changes.

Another thought....did you run ./configure before running make? If you didn't then make will likely be using defaults which may not apply to your system. ./configure should search for the required libraries etc and write the correct values to the Makefile.

yes, i did run the configure shell script thing and then i did the "make". I found the libaspell.la and it was in a different directory (i neglected the .la when i did the whereis). I now have a problem of not being able to find libltdl and I went to rpmfind.com as suggested in another thread and i found it. But when I ran the rpm, the box said it already exists so I don't know. I ran a search for files and couldnt find it. I'll try again or search google or something. thanks
