help, GNOME 2.6 hangs during startup
hi,
When I start up gnome (2.6.1), it hangs during the splash screen. It just started doing this the other day, so i think that one of the programs that was open when i last exited gnome is hanging the startup sequence. So my question is: how do i edit the gnome settings to bypass the programs in queue to load on startup? i am actually able to boot into a "failsafe gnome" desktop (but i can't edit profile settings), so this even further convinces me that it is some errant program hanging things. thanks for your thoughts. |
i figured the problem out. i disabled the gnome boot splash screen in the "failsafe gnome" desktop.
it appears that k3b wanted to load, but i have the launcher set up to do "gksu k3b", so gksu was prompting me for a password, but the gnome splash screen was drawing over the password request box. so, i didn't know that it was hidden back there until i disabled the splash screen. thanks so much for the kind thoughts. |
I had the same problem, but I found that if you clicked a few time quickly on the splash screen as it was loading services, it disappeared and allowed me to enter the root password for k3b. I was then able to remove it using gnome-session-properties.
