help getting screen-profiles working with screen

hey all i installed "screen" with apt-get and then downloaded the .deb files for "screen-profiles" and "screen-profiles-extras" as i couldn't find them in apt-get but after starting screen and pressing f9 to change the settings i can no longer get screen-profiles to show as when i start screen i only get the plain screen without screen-profiles

i'm following this guide btw:

http://www.ubuntugeek.com/screen-man...-terminal.html

also i'm on ubuntu server 8.10
