HELP: Fedora corrupted my Windows hard disc/installation
 

Hi,

I have a dual boot system Windows/Linux. While redhat was running dual boot was fine.

I installed Fedora and it seems it did some partition changes or something bad to the bootloader because now the Windows is not even recognized as installed and can not be booted. During the installation I excluded the Windows disc from being modified, preserving the Windows partition occupying the entire partition/disc. Fedora just had to update the boot loader but it seems has done more than that. Fedora is installed on a different disc.

During the installation of Fedora, a warning message opened up saying that "there is unalligned partition" unalligned incorrectly by mistake by some other program. The Windows partition was created by the original Windows installation. Does anybody know what this means?

Now even if I recover Windows from the original recovery CDs, it still does not boot

Can anybody help?

I had the same problem too when installing Fedora Core. Other distros I've tried don't seem to have the same problems. For me the solution in the past was to reformat the drives entirely and then reinstall WinXP, then Fedora. I also wouldn't mind somebody explaining what misaligned partition means! It seemed in the past to have been to do with using a mixture of Partition Magic and fdisk - they seem to disagree some of the time.
