Help! Damsel in distress! kxicq installation problem
Hi everyone,
I'm going nuts here.. I'm a newbie (obviously). I tried to install kxicq and keep getting this error: checking for killpg in -lucb... no checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt >= 1.42 (headers and libraries) not found. Please check your installation! I know I have Qt coz I installed it : [root@localhost root]# rpm -q qt qt-1.44-24mdk I am going NUTS.. I had to reinstall linux coz I messed up the c and c++ paths or something and now I can't get any of my chat programmes installed (let alone to work!). Why won't it install when everything's there?? Sometimes I wonder why I don't go back to using windows . I will post my other problems with xchat and amsn in seperate threads.... Thanks in advance! |
install the qt-dev rpm's you need those to compile qt stuff
Hey thanks for the prompt reply iceman! I'm a bit wary about rpm's because I get into this never ending struggle with failed dependencies .. could I install a tar version of the qt-dev perhaps it would be better?
It would be better to install rpm's as your whole system is based on it. The depencies are not that bad for QT, just install everything they ask for, they're all on your cd's.
btw, qt-dev is only for prepacked binaries like rpm and deb. The sources have everything in them |
okay thanks again iceman :o) I will download and try to install the qt-devel rpm & keep my fingers crossed. I really appreciate your help.
no problem, just post here if you run into troubles and someone will help you. btw, those rpm's are on the mandrake cd's, somewhere ;)
The problem is I only have cd 1... I'm on a dial up modem and had to download it hehe took forever.. I downloaded 33% of cd 2 but then they went and removed it from the ftp site and I didn't have the heart to start all over again. I'm downloading it now and hopefully it will resolve my problems soon :D

KDE/QT-1.4.x is old.....in fact it's so old that I doubt a program written to use it will even work on mandrake 9, and on the KDE/QT-3.1.x that mandrake comes with these days.
See if you can find a KDE3 version of kxicq. |
whoops you're right.. I looked in rpmfind.net for qt and my version seems to be ancient, there are alot of newer ones. I will attempt to install the newest one.. but I also saw a HUGE list of dependencies :( Thanks Aussie!
actually, those newer versions were for another distro I think .. the ones listed for mandrake are all 1.44 .. The later versions seem to be for "turbolinux" Shared libraries KDE Stable, should I install these or remain with the ones listed for mandrake? Gosh this linux stuff is mind boggling at times.
For an ICQ client I prefer LICQ, it has kde intergration and you should already have it installed, or there will be mandrake rpm's on one of your cd's.
looks good! Thanks! I will try it.
