Help Apache w/ LDAP and SSL

Hi,

I'm trying to compile Apache from source for LDAP support. The LDAP module requires a minimum of Apache 2.0.31. I downloaded the latest 2.0.47

util_ldap.c:81:2: #error mod_ldap requires APR-util to have LDAP support built in

So I download and build apr and apr-util (www.apache.org/dist/apr)

Now I re-run configure...

./configure --enable-cgi --enable-so \
--with-apr=/usr/local/apr \
--with-apr-util=/usr/local/apr \
--enable-ldap --enable-module=auth-ldap \
--enable-shared=auth-ldap \
--enable-ssl --enable-moduel=ssl \
--enable-shared=ssl

Configure doesn't complete - instead of trying to run GCC it incorrectly tries to run apr-util. OK, I can handle that...

CC=gcc CPP="gcc -E" ./configure --enable-cgi --enable-so \
--with-apr=/usr/local/apr \
--with-apr-util=/usr/local/apr \
--enable-ldap --enable-module=auth-ldap \
--enable-shared=auth-ldap \
--enable-ssl --enable-moduel=ssl \
--enable-shared=ssl

Great, so I make Apache - now here's the kicker...

util_ldap.c:81:2: #error mod_ldap requires APR-util to have LDAP support built in

Anybody run into this? More importantly, anybody work around it?

Thanks

Code:
dmcleod@moneta:/usr/src/packages/httpd-2.0.47$ ./configure --help | grep apr
--with-apr=DIR|FILE prefix for installed APR, path to APR build tree,
or the full path to apr-config
--with-apr-util=DIR prefix for installed APU, or path to APU build tree
Re-run your configure script and see if you get any complaints about what it can't find regarding the apr kit. Hopefully it'll be something more specific (like 'can't find foo.h')

Thank you for your reply. It makes sense, but the "configure" script itself has no problem detecting the APR, but it doesn't seem to use it if I set CC and CPP before running configure.

However, if I don't set CC and CPP then it seems to replace the term "gcc" with "aprutil", when trying to compile within "configure". Perhaps that is by design - but it just doesn't seem to work. I was hoping someone might have run into this.

try

Hi:

Try run the script with option --with-ldap. This will compile Apache into apr-utils.

./configure --enable-ldap --enable-auth-ldap --with-ldap

Hope that helps
