help!!!


the sound in my comp has suddenly gone dead..the speakers are all fine and working in my windows partition but there is no sound in my linux one.....somebody please help!!

What kind our sound card do you have. Maybe the module for it isn't loaded.
To see the sound card, try the following commands:
# dmesg | grep -i audio
or
# lspci | grep -i audio
or
# scanpci | grep -i audio

The most useful will be the first, since it will probably show any errors the kernel ran into while trying to load the sound drivers.
