.hdr files and .rpms

I am trying to install a kernel rpm and it tells me:

error: kernel-2.6.7-1.459.i686.rpm: headerRead failed: hdr blob(711285): BAD, read returned 64882
error: kernel-2.6.7-1.459.i686.rpm cannot be installed

I get the .hdr file to get headers and there are zero instructions as to what these do. I have hit man pages, and the like. There is nothing helpful online.

sounds like a corrupt rpm, did you check the md5sum? i'd personally just redownload it or build my own kernel from source.
